MUSIC: Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs leads Forbes’ highest-paid rap stars

The news of Diddy topping the list comes shortly after former Danity Kane members Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex claimed they never received any money while under his label. However, given his role as executive producer in the Straight Outta Compton film, and release of his latest album it is likely Dre could appear higher up next year, according to Forbes. To celebrate his “cash-king” win, Combs, posted a photo to Instagram wearing a T-shirt that said, “King” on the front. While Dr. Dre, last
year’s No.1 with earnings of $620m, the highest annual takings of any musician ever thanks to Apple’s record-breaking $3bn purchase of his Beats brand, is down to fourth with an annual income of $32m. The Canadian’s earnings were boosted by 50 concert dates, the platinum sales of his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late album and Sprite and Nike endorsements. Roc Nation also has a sports division that contributes to Jay Z’s earnings. Nicki Minaj, landing at No. 9, is the only female to land on the list. It’s been a good year for hip-hop and some of our favorite artists have acquired some nice fruit for their labor. Kendrick Lamar lands at No. 13 with $12 million, underscoring his status as a critical favorite with To Pimp a Butterfly, a dense, jazz-inflected record that denied fans sing-along hits, yet still sold 324,000 copies in its first week. In addition, both Kanye West and Dr. Dre have no problem speaking their minds.
Diddy undisputedly took the number one spot, bringing in $60 million over the past year.
